Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the appropriate procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient supervision of flexible pavement construction tasks including:

accessing, interpreting and applying documentation for applying the principles of flexible pavement construction

identifying and applying relevant specifications to all work activities

identifying, addressing and reporting potential hazards and risks

identifying, obtaining, confirming and supervising the implementation of signage and barrier requirements

selecting and checking for faults all plant, tools and equipment to carry out tasks

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues and ground conditions

ensuring a job plan is available and communicated which makes best use of the available resources and meets task requirements

works effectively with others to plan, prepare and conduct the supervision of flexible pavement construction tasks to meet requirements including:

preparing for and organising work activities to meet all task requirements

communicating clearly and concisely with others to allocate work tasks and give work instructions

monitoring movements and hazards and identifying and communicating changes to the work environment during the work process

demonstrates completion of the principles of flexible pavement construction that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

ensuring the provision of all plant, tools, equipment and resources

communicating instructions effectively

overseeing the allocation, progression and completion of tasks

supervising the application of techniques for flexible pavement construction

supplying coaching solutions where tasks require problem solving

ensuring plant, equipment and tools maintenance requirements are carried out and recorded

supervising the clearing of the work area and disposing of, reusing, recycling or storing of materials

reporting on the execution of tasks

recommending improvements to the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of the execution of tasks


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in applying the principles of flexible pavement construction through:

accessing, interpreting and applying organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

identifying and managing risks

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues

setting up work activity

site isolation, signage, erecting barriers and traffic control

work health and safety

managing waste

selecting and checking for faults, all plant, tools and equipment to carry out tasks

supervising work to specifications

the application of the principles and methods of flexible pavement construction

applying effective techniques to supervising flexible pavement construction
